Let’s Go Bucs!

Monday’s never the best time of the week, but the weather and opening day in baseball will make up for it. After a bit of a surprise slush storm yesterday here in the DC Region, conditions will be dry through much of Wednesday before a chance of showers moves in late. Western PA will see dry conditions through Tuesday before a chance of rain moves in on Wednesday. Temperatures will ramp up into the 50s and 60s across the region with some areas even breaking into the 70s. A wetter pattern moves in for the second half of the week. Enjoy the nice weather! Let’s go Bucs!

Weekend Update…Minus Colin Quinn Because No One Liked Him on SNL

It’s Friday. The final frontier of the work week. The beginning of a wet, but more mild, weekend. Should be pretty showery this weekend with potential for heavier rains on Saturday. Lingering showers could hold steady into Sunday before clearing out for a beautiful day on Monday. Temperatures have cooled down a bit with the forecast thanks to the low pressure system slowing down off the coast during the weekend and lots of moisture. What a jerk. Can’t complain after a long and cold winter though. This relief from the cold should continue into next week. Have a fantastic weekend. Relax, enjoy the nice temperatures, and have fun. Take care folks!

Bad News: Wintry weather could move in during the overnight hours this weekend in western PA.

The Warm Up Starts Today Despite the Frigid Morning

Currently it is one of those mornings where you walk out of your front door, look up to the sky, and scream, “What did I ever do to you Mother Nature?!” Temperatures will actually be  quite nice by late this afternoon. So hang in there. Temperatures will continue to stay fairly comfortable through the first part of next week. The only bad thing is that a more active pattern moves in, keeping conditions wet through the weekend. Monday looks to be the best day for western PA and the DC Region with dry conditions and highs in the 50s/60s. Spring has arrived! Enjoy!

Good News: Spring arrives today. Temperatures stay seasonal to above normal through early next week.

Bad News: Remember it is western PA and that winter doesn’t seem to end until the end of April or May. Don’t rule out any chances of snow in the next couple weeks.

Much Relief On the Way…Just Not Tomorrow Morning or Today

A chilly next couple of days before a warm up occurs into the weekend. Gusty winds will also make conditions feel quite cold today into Thursday morning as wind chills could drop to below 0 tomorrow morning. Dry conditions will persist through most of Thursday before a threat of rain moves into the region overnight into Friday and into the weekend. Highs will reach into the 40s and 50s in western PA Friday through early next week. The DC region will warm up into the 50s and 60s. Enjoy the warmer temperatures after today and early tomorrow but stay dry. Take care folks!

  • Friday: Showers likely. Highs: Low to Mid 60s Overnight Lows: Upper 40s/Low 50s

Good News: It will finally feel like Spring after tomorrow. Warmer temperatures than what we’ve been seeing will occur as any cold shots tend to be short lived/less intense.

Bad News: Still potential for below normal temperatures, but normal temperatures are on the rise. A more active pattern means a better chance of wet weather however through this weekend.

Snow…Anyone Else Sick of This Word Yet?

Another day of snow in the works for today as temperatures hold steady well below normal the next couple of days before conditions warm up. Looking at about 1-3″ from DC up to the Philly region. Some local amounts could be higher. Snow should stay mainly on grassy surfaces although back roads and untreated roads could be slick. Salt trucks seem to be out in full force though this morning. The warm up begins Thursday as a more spring-like active pattern finally moves in making long-term, intense cold less likely. Looks like the East is finally starting to get Spring fever and I’m ready for it. Have a great two-for- Tuesday.
Current (~7am) Temperatures:
  • Erie, PA:  18; Wind Chill: 11
  • Franklin, PA: 16; Wind Chill: 16

  • Wednesday:  Chance of snow early. Clearing out. Highs: 20s/Low 30s Overnight Lows: Teens/Low 20s
  • Thursday: Warmer. Chance of rain, especially later in the day and into the night. Highs: 40s/low 50s. Overnight Lows: 40s

DC Region:

Main threat: Slick roads. Steady snowfall at times. Snow should stick mainly to grassy areas.

  • Today: Snow. 1-3″ generally on grassy surfaces. Local higher amounts possible. Highs: 30s Overnight Lows: 40s
  • Wednesday:  Decreasing clouds. Highs: 30s Overnight Lows: 30s/low 40s
  • Thursday: Partly cloudy. Highs: Upper 40s/Low 50s Overnight Lows: 40s

Good News: Spring fever catching on. More active pattern means less intense cold and more warmth. No significant cold shots in the next couple weeks from the looks of it right now.

Bad News: Cold temperatures persist through Wednesday. Pattern pretty active, so it’ll stay fairly wet for the rest of the week as well.

Sleep In Edition

Much colder compared to the early weekend. Chance of snow moves in late tonight into tomorrow. Lingers through early Wednesday. Highs in the 20s/30s in western PA through Wednesday while lows hang in the teens/low 20s. For DC, highs will stay in the 30s/low 40s. Lows in the 20s/30s are expected. For snow totals, looking between 1-3″ from DC to the Philly region. Could’ve been worse if the storm tracked further westward. For western PA, it looks to be less of an impact although you could see an inch or two. After the middle of the week things warm up and shouldn’t get as cold. The pattern looks to improve as the strong cold from the winter loosens its grip giving way to more of a spring-like pattern. Have a good day!

Early Weekend Warmth, Late Weekend Cold

The title pretty much says it all. Southerly flow will help to warm temperatures to near or above normal values the next couple of days before our lives and temperatures come crashing back to below normal by early next week. Could see a light shower across western PA today before a better chance of wet weather moves in on Saturday before a cold front cools things down. DC should stay dry today and tomorrow before a light shower could graze the region Sunday. Enjoy the warmth because next week gets cold!
Current (~7am) Temperatures:
  • Erie, PA:  28; Wind Chill: 28
  • Franklin, PA: 25; Wind Chill: 19

  • Today:  Partly sunny. Chance of a shower, mainly across the south. Highs: 40s/Low 50s Overnight Lows: 30s/Low 40s
  • Saturday:  Chance of showers. Highs: 40s/50s Overnight Lows: Teens/20s
  • Sunday: Partly sunny Highs: Mid 30s/Low 40s. Overnight Lows: Teens

  • Friday: Partly cloudy. Highs: Mid 50s to low 60s Overnight Lows: 40s
  • Saturday:  Partly sunny. Highs: Mid to upper 60s. Some areas could break into 70s. Overnight Lows: 30s/low 40s
  • Sunday: Slight chance of a stray shower in the south. Otherwise, Partly sunny. Highs: Upper 40s/Low 50s Overnight Lows: Upper 20s

Good News: May be a light at the end of the cold tunnel. 11-15 day period seasonal/above normal. Euro weeklies (model for week 3 and 4) also show a warming trend in the pattern.

Bad News: Below normal temperatures settle in for much of next week. Potential for a snow event early to mid next week. May be sloppy mixed with rain/sleet. Still quite a bit of uncertainty with the track of the system. As always, I’ll keep you updated.

Spring Starts Today…Sort of

The first day of Spring is today as the season officially starts at 12:57PM. Although temperatures will be near to above normal into the early weekend, Spring, like the great LL Cool J, says “don’t call it a comeback,” as temperatures drop to well below normal early next week. A chance of light rubbish will linger in PA before clearing out tomorrow. Enjoy the nicer temperatures before it gets cold again next week. Have a good one!

Rollercoasters Make People Sick, Including the Temperature Kind

Wet weather will move into the region today as a front pushes through. The chance of rain and snow will linger into early Thursday in western PA before drying out into Friday. Temperatures will warm up a bit into the early weekend before cooling down significantly into next week. Near record low temperatures are possible next week. Those of us wishing for the March we had 2 years ago are very disappointed.

A Taste of Spring, But The Aftertaste Is Still Winter

Dry conditions will span PA and much of the DC Region today before wet weather moves in tomorrow. Rain and snow will move into much of western PA while the DC region sees all rain. This will continue into Thursday for western PA as the chance of on and off wet weather continues through the early weekend. Temperatures will continue to warm up a bit as seasonal and even above normal temperatures settle in during the late week. Another cold spell will haunt the region next week.
